Common Questions
Does SM&B's immigration department undertake legal aid work?
Unfortunately we do not.
What is the difference between SM&B and OISC regulated bodies?
As we are a law firm, our immigration department differs significantly from OISC (The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) consultants or advisors in two important respects:
- Firstly, our immigration team consists of lawyers who have undergone many years of formal legal education and training and, as a result, are regulated not only by the OISC but also by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Council.
- Secondly, by virtue of the fact that all our lawyers are either solicitors or barristers, we are entitled to undertake all forms of litigation work, most notably applications to the High Court for judicial review and appeals to the Court of Appeal from unfavourable decisions made by the AIT.
What is my immigration status while my application for a extension visa is pending with the UK Border Agency?
Provided you make an application for an extension visa before your current visa expires, you visa will be automatically extended until the UK Border Agency make a decision in relation to your application, even if the decision is made after your current visa runs. Furthermore, if your current visa permits you to work in the UK, you may continue to work whilst awaiting a decision on your application.
